Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas (2017-2023)

Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas is a preventive health initiative funded by The Duke Endowment that aims to reduce chronic disease prevalence with a focus on diabetes, obesity/unhealthy weight and heart disease. The HPHC initiative employs the usage of multi-sector collaboration to improve health outcomes in Fairfield County.

Walkabouts

Research has shown that physical activity improves cognition, concentration, behavior and academic performance. Active students learn better! That is why Fairfield Forward has partnered with Fairfield County School District to provide Walkabouts to Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Walkabouts are short, online modules that incorporate movement-rich activities into lessons reinforcing language arts, math and reading concepts. Students and teachers may access Walkabouts at school or at home. Parents are encouraged to use Walkabouts as a resource to help with homework, studying, or for just plain fun!

Disaster Recovery & Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG)

Fairfield Forward serves as the lead coordinator for the Fairfield County Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG), bringing together local agencies, faith partners, nonprofits, and volunteers to support residents impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The LTRG helps organize recovery efforts across the county by connecting families with available programs, coordinating volunteer support, and working with partners to address housing repairs, unmet needs, and long-term recovery planning.

Recovery takes time, and the LTRG provides a space where organizations can work together to help residents move toward stability and rebuilding.

How to Get Help / Referrals

Residents who were impacted by the storms may be eligible for support through the LTRG network. Assistance may include:

  • Disaster case management referrals
  • Home repair coordination
  • Resource navigation and partner referrals
  • Volunteer rebuilding support (when available)

To request assistance or learn more about available resources call 803-801-0606 or 803-801-3859

Fairfield County residents may also be referred through partner agencies such as SCOR, local emergency management, or community organizations.

Submitting a request does not guarantee assistance but allows the LTRG to review needs and connect households with available resources.

Our Recovery Partners

The Fairfield County LTRG works alongside many organizations committed to helping the community recover.

Partners include:

  • American Red Cross
  • South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR)
  • OneSC Funds
  • United Way of the Midlands / 211
  • Lutheran Services Carolinas
  • Salvation Army
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Team Rubicon
  • Fairfield County Emergency Management
  • Faith-based and community organizations
  • Fairfield County School District

Recovery Progress Updates

Since the storms, Fairfield Forward and the LTRG have:

  • Hosted community meetings and outreach events to connect residents with resources
  • Strengthened partnerships across housing, health, and volunteer groups
  • Supported coordination of case management referrals
  • Continued planning for home repair and unmet needs support

The coalition continues to meet regularly to discuss recovery progress, share updates, and identify ways to support Fairfield County residents as rebuilding continues.
