Power In Changing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on the needs of families experiencing material and financial hardship. Through the provision of diapers, educational programs, a safe sleep initiative for newborns, and working with local nonprofits, Power In Changing is committed to providing families, at or below poverty standards set by the State of South Carolina, skills and resources necessary to build a stable foundation for their family. Our service area is Fairfield, Richland, Kershaw, and Lexington counties. Our agency offers a four-prong approach to services. These are:
- Emergency Diaper Need – Distributions of diapers to WIC eligible families are held three times a month. Family members, with the appropriate documentation, can pick up an emergency pack that contains diapers, wipes, diaper cream (as requested), available books, and toys.
- Program and Service Coordination – Work with community partners to coordinate client service assistance, community baby showers, lunch and learn workshops and joint program service enrollment support for qualified parents.
- Information and Referral Services – Facilitate service needs searches and appropriate referral assistance for families, as requested.
- Family Empowerment Program – Monthly “meetups” where parents can demonstrate knowledge of prenatal/postnatal healthy lifestyle practices, knowledge of healthy hygiene practices for infants, how to communicate efficiently without resorting to anger, identify goals and activities to improve current situations, demonstrate proficiency in non-violent discipline practices.
Power In Changing is committed to positive change in families that want to improve upon their current situation and build a healthy foundation for the well-being of their children. We have distributed over 100,000 diapers since 2015 and continue to build a support network of community partners to ensure babies in the Midlands stay happy, healthy, and dry!
